Amrron ‘Morse Net’ is Back!
Thank you to all of you who responded to the AmRRON Mobile Team App survey
asking about your interest in a CW Morse Code net. The results of that survey
are posted below.
We’ll start off with the Morse Nets taking place (generally) every other Tuesday,
usually on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month, in between the National Net weeks.
Also, thank you to [code names] Wingnut and Hotel-04 for your willingness to help
bring life back into the AmRRON Morse nets as Net Control Station (NCS) operators!
Beginning Tuesday evening, April 13th, at 0200hrs Zulu
When: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month (in between
National Net Weeks)Time: 0200hrs Zulu (after the East/Central Digital Training Net)
Frequency: 7.110 (40 Meter SOI Frequency)
What: Bi-weekly Morse Code (CW) Net for both, manual/hand keys, and
software based CW decoding programs.
This will be a modified net –
- The first half will be slow code for the those learning to sendby hand.
- The second half will be faster for those with machine-assisted send/receive equipment.
This is our first AmRRON Morse net in a long time, so expect adjustments as we
grow and more operators join in. This net is expected to grow in scope as our operators
become more proficient in sending and receiving in Morse Code.
For those learning Morse – please learn the sounds of the letter at about
20WPM – and insert space as needed between letters and words. This is

Several training modes – send groups of letters – you can specify how many letters in a group and the
letters you want to practice send english words “ebook” mode – I have created word lists and used them as ebooks.
CW Academy
Four levels of training; Eight-weeks long and held three times per year (Jan-Feb, May-Jun and Sep-Oct).
FREE – but classes do fill up quickly.

Remember: (I do not speakf or AmRRON, but you might consider this as a helping hand.)
To use FLdigi to copy a staion Transmitting in CW mode on 7110, those using FLdigi decoder will normally use USB mode and will need to be slightly BELOW the 7110 CW net frequency, otherwise the CW will be zero beat (i/e inaudible in uppersideband). If you will use manual CW (no FLdigi transmit) 7110 CW mode is the correct diel setting.
—> For those using FLdigi<—
I suggest a dial setting of 7109.30USB / @700 Hz to participate. That will receive/send a CW of 700 Hz audio putch on your speaker and water fall, Youf FLdigi will be at aproximately the same audio puitch "tone' as the NCS.
Explanation: CW mode is normally ZERO BEAT on its dial frequency and would not be heard by a receiver using U/LSB with the dial set to 7110, because the pitch/tone of the signal would be zero Hz.
Excellent. You’re right. Thanks for adding that tip! -JJS
Interesting… For those of us old timers who use keys to transmit our cw, would we need to select lower or upper side band for the Morse machine copiers. Or doesn’t it matter…
Hand sent Morse (as God intended it to be ,,,) set for CW mode 7110.0 The puts your signal right in the passband for other Morse CW stations. The FLdigi readers usually operate on USB and that’s why THEY need to tune about 700Hz below when in upper sideband, so that they have a tone for their readers. LEt me be clear: the human ear is the huge advantage of Morse code via radio. Machines should talk to other machines in modes made for machines, like CONTESTIA, MFSK and more, because they really ARE optimized for machine to machine comms. Morse in cw is optimised for human to human.
Think of a machine copying Morse as a way to test the waters, but it’s like having Siri run radio voice comms for you – YOUR ear is FAAAR better with voice than Siri’s speech algorythm.
