Commstat is a JS8Call companion program  developed by AmRRON Corps operator ‘Whiskey-55’, designed to map the locations of stations who have submitted STATREPs (Status Reports), and facilitates the sending, saving, and/or forwarding of STATREPs, and so much more.  In 2025 Papa Romeo Whiskey developed a Commstat V2 update which provides OFFLINE MAPPING capabilities, as well as other features and an updated STATREP form (Version 5.1), with several improvements.

Since Commstat is designed to pull data from JS8Call, be sure to download and set up JS8Call first.

NOTE:  Linux users, the AmRRON Linux build script will automatically download and install JS8Call, Commstat, and the other ham radio and security software that AmRRON uses (including the V2 offline mapping update for Commstat).

CommStatOne provides for:

Submitting a preformatted STATREP (Status Report) form
Conducting Commstat nets using JS8Call
Flash bulletins for high visibility important notifications
Scrolling marquee across the top so Net Control can make announcements that stays in front of the operators
Filtering to look more closely at incidents over a time period, location, etc.
And much more!

The instructions developed by PRW are very thorough, and will walk you through the step-by-step process of getting CommStatOne downloaded, set up, and operational on the air. This is designed with HF radio operations in mind, but JS8Call is also used across the country for local VHF/UHF nets, and CommStatOne could be used for that as well.

Get the downloadable/printable CommStatOne PDF guide here.

NOTE: You do NOT need to be a licensed ham operator to download JS8Call and CommStatOne, install them, and use them for RECEIVING ONLY. You can easily use a shortwave radio receiver or SDR receiver to receive the signals being transmitted by ham operators. This is another tool for your situational awareness, even if you can’t transmit.

Get the OFFLINE MAP updates!

LINUX:  Run the AmRRON Linux build Script.  Offline Mapping plugins and updates have been added to the script.  See the PDF for more information about the updates and how the offline maps work, at the link below.

WINDOWS:  See the posting where you will find the step-by-step PDF guide to downloading and installing the offline mapping plugins and files.

The following was contributed by Papa Romeo Whiskey, piggy-backing off the amazing work of Whiskey-55 who developed the Commstat dashboard and STATREP management and messaging application which works as a companion to JS8Call, weak signal mode and software.

The greatest (but not the only) improvement was the ability to have offline mapping.  Prior to V2, although stations could be seen displayed, there was no map and therefore no orientation as to the geographical locations (visually) once the internet is cut off.

The following are the original update instructions provided by PRW.  The primary difference is that you can download them here (below) so PRW isn’t flooded with email requests to the ProtonDrive link.  The PDF also itemizes all of the changes and updates this version contains:

Below is the zip folder containing all of the necessary folders and files for upgrading to Commstat Version 2.  This is BETA (testing phase), but it has worked as advertised for those of us who have been testing, and it’s so nice to have offline mapping capability.
