25 July
WIWT News | Joint test between the Babushka Federation and Maoistan has western leaders holding emergency conference calls among themselves in the early morning hours of Friday. National heads scramble to develop a strategy and a unified response to potentially dangerous Babushka and Maoistani anti satellite missile launches, which were abruptly announced for early Friday, July 25th.
Western intelligence has been tracking the activity at launch sites in both countries, but seem to be caught off guard at the early announcement. The hotly debated weapons programs designed to target satellites in the event of war have experts warning that simply blowing up a single satellite can cause space debris which endangers non military satellites used in commerce, telecommunications, navigation, and monitoring of the oceans’ levels and polar ice caps. Some say it imperils the International Space Station and its crews.
Spokespersons from both Babushka and Maoistan said this is an overreaction to a test that won’t endanger anyone, or any other spacecraft. Each stated that the test was designed to target their own, dead weather satellites that are no longer in service and have reached the end of their lives. Both nations claim any debris will fall to earth and burn up upon reentry.
Others argue that even without warfare, but simply “testing” could create debris fields that could potentially make space dangerous, or even unusable for years. And if anti satellite weapons were used in warfare, space could be unusable for decades, or more. Possibly centuries.
Intelligence experts ask, “Why so many?” Space warfare fellow at Spaced Out Research, Ian Wondering, asked if they’re only sending up one rocket each, why are both nations staging dozens of rockets at launch sites within just a 24 hour time.
This question has the US State Department and the Pentagon scrambling for answers and options in case this is not just a “test.” Babushka and Maoistan both rejected notions of launching more than just one anti satellite missile each, and stated firmly that all weapons systems have to be inspected and systems checked and placing them in launchers is the most efficient means of comprehensive testing.
State heads are working to put international pressure on the Babushka Federation and Maoistan to convince them to halt any launches, and most importantly, not to take any action that would endanger the peaceful use of space for all who call Earth home.
