Great content and interesting historical references here! I like the idea of a sacrificial radio to “hand over” to authorities should confiscation become a reality. I would add the level of importance to become portable capable in times of conflict. Monitoring is one thing, but transmitting is another. Being able to transmit away from your qth is a good idea as I’m sure anything detected would be triangulated in a short time.

glad to see more ham radio related content on radio free redoubt. I remember back when it was all ham radio related.
I was told being part of MARS would allow you to operate at such times as martial law. ?
I think that adds to my satisfaction that I own some vintage valvestate radios. They are easy to repair, EMP proof, and also likely to be passed over as useless antiques by someone who does not no better. Also a good reason to learn CW. You can always make a CW transmitter with scrounged parts. It does not take much to build a functional oscillator.
