(unlike last year, we WILL be producing a full post-exercise AAR for T-REX 2022, and sharing all the lessons learned here on the website)

Type ‘T22‘ in the Subject line to help us keep organized (we get a LOT of email).
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and help us all to grow and learn from it.
Aransas never heard anyone monitored 20-40-80.
Real disappointment didn’t evidently know this was a digital mode only exercise thought it would be more like field day thanks Jack koelbl KB5JK email jkoelbl@gmail.com
I was NCS on the 20m National voice AND digital nets and took a LOT of check ins on Friday and Saturday. The traffic was passed (99.9% of it) on digital modes, because there was so much traffic and digital modes are so much more efficient. Imagine distributing your local newspaper, error free, over HF voice, nationwide… ugh! Two to three times a day. I don’t think so.
Stations which do not train and practice regularly on AmRRON nets will indeed be disappointed when if they show up for the test once a year. Hundreds of stations received reports of train derailments, airport closures, a major earthquake off the Pacific coast, A prison break, a stolen Civil Air Patrol airplane, and two ‘nuclear explosions’… and MUCH more.
It wasn’t a digital only exercise. I participated in a couple voice nets on 80M and one on 40M. This exercise is like Field Day in that many operators go out into the field to simulate grid-down conditions but unlike Field Day, we are passing significant amounts of traffic, not just call signs and signal reports. Digital modes help speed that process up.
I heard nothing in Alaska…. In 3 months of listening I have only been able to check in on 20 meters once.
If people aren’t willing to put in the VERY small amount of time to set up digital capability, are they really to be relied on for much else if it’s also “too hard”?
Will the survey results be summarized and shared?
Affirmative. I’m trying to get that finalized and consolidated this week. -JJS
