It was my first time participating in such an event. it was an awesome experience. Even with poor band conditions and the level of difficulty, a lot got done. it validates my hobby and makes me happy to be AmRRON. Great show everyone!
Not sure if it was just the bad band conditions or just the lack of participating here in the SC area but was not able to make any contacts. on any bands,
Little or no phone nets . Some digital nets but no request for check ins . Or request for traffic. Learned a lot just setting up the custom forms.
Looking forward to the next exercise.
Big improvement this year. using all digital mostly on 40 but also some 80 and 20. Great practice w/ FLAMP. relays, and filling blocks. Hope the clowns have recuperated.
I was all excited for this year but then I couldn’t make any contacts either. I heard a few fragments of messages (asking for the net frequency to remain clear & then another asking to repeat the last transmission) but that was it. Hopefully next year will go better
Thank you everyone! This was an awesome experience. Down in Florida band conditions were fair to OK Friday and Saturday, dead Sunday. I learned that I need to learn and practice a lot more on wrapping documents, and using flmsg. Even with a modest set, and a 35 foot high wire antenna I was able to copy enough to be a relevant contributor to my community. Seems like many folks were sending msg using old forms, which being new, I did not have, hence couldn’t open the message.
We also tested all of our other survival systems, water, electricity, food, and short term food preservation. (saving leftovers) Nice to find deficiencies now. If there is any interest in a novel way of preserving food for the next day or for the hike, I would be glad to post an article. Once again, thank you all
Rocket:
It won’t hurt to put the old forms in your custom forms directory.
Also, are you sure that you weren’t getting FLAMP transmissions? If you got plain text that just didn’t open up in the Amrron forms, then you are correct, it was probably old files, which you could still read.
If you got line numbers with computer code, then you were getting a FLAMP message.
I found that I was sending messages and not getting confirmation back but when the reports started going around I found that they did find their way to someone. Which was pretty darn cool. Hopefully bands improve enough for the next one.
