I just purchased a Baofeng 5v+ and the programing cable. I am running a Mac with snow leopard. The mac is seeing the cable but when I try to download from the radio I get the message that “the radio did not respond.”
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the two to communicate?
I have not used the MAC OS so I’m not sure on that. I did find a link that might help you out if you are still working on this: http://baofengtech.com/pccable
(after you click the link, scroll down a bit and you’ll see the MAC OS section)
First “issue” I thought I found, was that the programming cable was awfully easy to bump and lose contact.
Then I pushed the connector into the radio a little bit harder and it snapped into the seal. (the best reason to turn off the radio, prior to connecting the cable, is so you don’t key the PTT button on the opposite side of the unit, transmitting a dead-carrier, or any choice words you might be saying at the time.)
Proper attachment of the cable to the equipment made CHIRP connection work too.
So far, I’ve only been able to “download from radio” the factory image. The “upload to radio” is still grayed-out.
But what’s with that joke of a program Baofeng provides on the CD? It has “??” in front of single letters, for every item in the drop-down menus anyway??
(just an FYI: I’m pretty sure it was BaofengTech.com, that indicates the BF-F9-V2+ is a clone, running older firmware. Another indicator: BaofengTech.com does not stock the BF-F9-V2+.)

Received my order of 2 each of BF-F8HP today.
